Loaded gun was 'given to Duggan'

A loaded handgun was given to Mark Duggan 15 minutes before he was shot dead by police in Tottenham last year, a court has heard.

Details emerged as the prosecution opened its case against Kevin Hutchinson-Foster, 30, who denies a charge of supplying the gun.

Edward Brown QC told Snaresbrook Crown Court Mr Duggan had travelled by cab to Leyton, east London to collect the gun.

No gun was found on Mr Duggan after he had been killed.

Mr Brown told the court telephone data showed the two men had been in contact.

'Opened the box'

The jury was told the BBM Bruni Model 92 handgun, which had one bullet in it, had been hidden in a shoe box.

"The evidence suggests that along the journey [to Tottenham] at some point Mark Duggan opened the box that was used to hide the gun and took the gun out," Mr Brown said.

Mr Hutchinson-Foster, of no fixed abode, denies selling or transferring a prohibited firearm to Mr Duggan between 28 July and 5 August last year.

The 29-year-old's death sparked the riots which spread across England in summer 2011.

The trial continues.
